Have you heard about Pangea Day - a full day film extravaganza for a good cause?  Some of the world's best documentary film makers are showing their movies in numerous theatres around the world. Pangea calls it the first ever global campfire with talks from Al Gore, CNN's Christiane Amanpour, Bob Geldof etc, and satellite link-ups to places like London, Rio, Mumbai and of course  - here in Vancouver.  The event is free, though a donation to the World Food Programme is encouraged.  Check out all the details here.

THURSDAY SHOW STUFF

Thu, 2008-05-08 05:20.
Drew Savage

I brought my work boots with me today because right after the show I'm heading to the North Shore Transfer Station to make good on the bet I made with Nat during Earth Week.  Over the course of that week, I produced 6 more ounces of garbage than Nat did...and that means I have to pull a shift at the transfer station today.  Apparently, I'll be loading trucks of garbage, cleaning up garbage that spills out the back of the compactors and working with the birdman who flies a hawk around to keep the seagulls away.  We'll have audio from the adventure on Friday's show.

TGIF!

Fri, 2008-05-02 05:15.
Drew Savage

It's Friday and I'm already anticipating the smell of the BBQ filling my neighbourhood this weekend.

Before we break for the weekend, here are some links to things we've talked about on the show:

EX-BOYFRIEND'S JEWELRY

Tue, 2008-04-29 06:54.
Drew Savage

Have you ever tried to sell some jewelry that an ex gave you?  If so, you know that sinking feeling when the pawn shop owner offers you 50 bucks for it.  Marie and Meagan Perry were on with us this morning talking about a new website they've launched that's a lot more fun than those dingy pawn shops.

Friday Mornings Winner and More....................

Fri, 2008-04-25 09:21.
Nat Hunter

Nat and Drew's Great Big Garbage Challenge to the Death is officially over and the winner is.....................me!   This is the part where I would normally gloat, but truthfully both Drew and I produced way too much garbage and recylcing for the week and I only beat him by 7 measley ounces.  If you are playing catch-up and not really sure what I am rambling on about - on Monday morning Drew and I announced that we would keep track of every piece of garbage and recycling we produced for the entire week and the loser would be punished.  Our official tally this morning revealed I produced 6 pounds 6 ounces of waste and recycling, while Drew accumulated 6 pounds 13 ounces.  That means he'll be spending some time at the North Shore transfer station sorting garbage on May 8th!!!

Saving The World One Wrapper At A Time!

Thu, 2008-04-24 07:00.
Nat Hunter

Drew and I are in the midst of our Great Big Garbage Challenge - to the Death......where the loser will get thrown into the pit of despair!  Okay, maybe not.  After a week of keeping track of every piece of garbage and recylcing that we create the person who creates the most waste will be publicly shamed and punished.  The exact punishment hasn't been finalized but most likely the loser will be spending some time at the dump.

PETER WALSH

Thu, 2008-04-03 08:46.
Drew Savage

One of our favourite guests was back on the show this morning - Peter Walsh.  He's written several books on how to get your life and your home organzied.  His latest is called Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?  It ties together struggles with weight with struggles to stay organized.  If you missed the interview, check the Nat & Drew On Demand section Thursday afternoon.  In the meantime, you can see highlights from last appearance on Oprah's show HERE.

IDOL'S VOCAL COACH

Wed, 2008-04-02 06:25.
Drew Savage

When Simon, Randy or Paula tells a contestant on American Idol that they've really come a long way or that they're the most improved singer on the show, a lot of the credit has to go to Debra Byrd.  She's the vocal coach for all of the contestants on both American Idol and Canadian Idol - she called in this morning with news on David Cook, who was rushed to hosptial after the show last night.  She said he's doing fine and that the doctors put him on meds to help with his heart issues.  "Byrd" (as she likes to be called) also said Canadian Idol season 3 winner Melissa O'Neil was the queen of bad song choices!  For the entire interview, check  the Nat & Drew On Demand section.

CANADA'S GREATEST SPAS

Mon, 2008-03-31 10:50.
Drew Savage

Ann Dimon was on the show this morning - she's the Roger Ebert of spas.  In what must be the greatest job in the world, Ann travels from country to country reviewing spas all over.  She's just recently completed a list of the 24 Greatest Spas in Canada with many of them in BC.  Follow the link to check out the list...which includes info on the "Fanny Facial."  Yes...finally a way for our butts to look younger.

Tell Telemarketers Where to Go!!!!!!

Fri, 2008-03-28 06:18.
Nat Hunter

You're just about to sit down to dinner and then the phone rings.....do you answer it?  Or is it another one of those freakin' telemarketers?  And if you do answer it, and it is a telemarketer are you polite?  Do you ask nicely to be taken off their call list or do you find yourself swearing like a sailor?  Wouldn't it be nice to never ever have to deal with them again?.....well there is a way.  You can register with I Opt Out and manage your very own "do not call" list.  Perhaps even put your in-laws on it! ;)

FLAT-BELLY TUESDAY

Tue, 2008-03-18 06:49.
Drew Savage

Cynthia Sass of Prevention magazine was on the show today to talk about the new Flat-Belly Diet.  The diet stresses the importance of eating mono-unsaturated fatty acids (or "MUFA's") with every meal.  Here's the good news: dark chocolate is a MUFA!  You could follow this diet and eat chocolate with every meal and a snack.  Follow this link for more on the Flat-Belly Diet and go fill you cupboards with dark chocolate.

JACOB'S WIGGLE WAGGLE WALK

Fri, 2008-03-07 08:41.
Drew Savage

Jacob Carbery is a one-of-a-kind 10-year-old boy.  Two years ago, he was moved after reading a story about an abandoned and abused dog who was nursed back to health thanks to money from the SPCA's Biscuit Fund.  He wanted to make a difference and raise even more money for the Biscuit Fund so other dogs could be saved, so he emailed us and told us about a "Wiggle Waggle Walk" he was going to have.

Vote Robin & Frankie!!!!!

Thu, 2008-02-28 10:08.
Nat Hunter

If you were listening to the show this morning you probably heard us discussing the TV Week Magazine Awards and how the ballot placement sucks.  In fact, out of 24 radio morning shows...Drew and I are listed 24th. Who has the kind of time to read through all those other names and then get to us? In fact, we even had a professor on from the University of Victoria who said ballot placement is key when it comes to an election.

THE POWER OF RICK ASTLEY

If you've got kids, you probably remember the struggle you had to get them to settle down.  Sometimes it's the most random thing that will do the trick and calm them down.  Check out this video of the world's youngest Rick Astley fan!

The Spice Girls finished their world reunion tour last night in Toronto and one of the highlights was when Victoria's 3-year-old son Cruz took the stage.  He had all the dance moves......I can only imagine he would kick ass on Dance Dance Revolution!

Today is the first-ever "Anti-Bullying Day" in BC where we're all encouraged to wear pink and take a stand against bullies.  Here are a couple of links to things we talked about on the show today.

Cover Your Eyes Kiddies!

Tue, 2008-02-26 09:40.
Nat Hunter

Most of us go through the check-out line at a grocery store thinking nothing of all the magazines that line the shelves.  They're fun to look at, sometimes when we see celebrities at their worst it makes us feel good, and frankly, how else are we going to find out if Sasquatch has a love child?  However, some parents in Abbotsford are tired of taking their kids to the grocery store and being bombarded by racy headlines like "Your Best Orgasm Ever" and "The Sexual Position He Craves"....so they're asking for their local stores to implement family friendly check-out lines that wouldn't display magazines.

SMART COOKIES

Wed, 2008-02-20 07:33.
Drew Savage

Katie Dunsworth and Andrea Baxter are two of the "Smart Cookies" who appeared on Oprah last year.  They were THOUSANDS of dollars in credit card debt and after watching an Oprah show, they decided that instead of starting a book club, they'd start a money club and help each other get out of debt.

BIRTHDAY CAKE DUNK

Tue, 2008-02-19 08:51.
Drew Savage

This has got to be the most creative use of Birthday Cake I've ever seen.  Oh sure, Nat seems to think Gerald Green should've hung from the basket and ate some of the cake.  In any case, check out this AMAZING dunk from the NBA's All-Star Weekend.

THE TANTRIC TEACHER

Wed, 2008-02-13 09:39.
Drew Savage

Our "tantric teacher", Tanja Diamond was back on the show this morning.  She has another event coming up in Vancouver this weekend, part of which deals with "sexy sounds."  Yes...the sounds we make in the bedroom go a long way to fulfilling our love lives.

TINA & BEYONCE

Mon, 2008-02-11 07:30.
Drew Savage

The Grammy Awards were on last night - I think we watched the same show, but Nat & I saw two completely different things.  The way I saw it, Tina Turner & Beyonce had the best performance of the night...and it wasn't even close.  Nat feels that it fell short of expectations and that Tina has joined the ranks of artists who can't bring it the way they used to.

VOTE FOR TARA JEAN!

Sat, 2008-02-09 20:12.
Drew Savage

Canadian Idol judge Jake Gold was in studio with us on Friday and he heard our producer, Tara Jean, audition for Media Idol.  It's a competition between local media types - the person with the most votes goes to Toronto to represent Vancouver and CTV will make a cash donation to the winner's charity of choice.  If...er...I mean... WHEN she wins, Tara Jean will donate the money to the Surrey Food Bank - one of the food banks we support through "Nat & Drew's Food Bank Fill-Up."

SEA WORLD COMES TO 95 CRAVE

Thu, 2008-02-07 07:34.
Drew Savage

It's a zoo in the studio on the best of days, but today...it's REALLY a zoo.   Check out the video of Pete, Penny, Remy, Roswell and Twister from Sea World & Busch Gardens in San Diego.  Once a year, they come up to Vancouver to visit students at different schools around the Lower Mainland and always make time to visit us on the show.

THE SUPERBOWL ADS YOU DIDN'T SEE

Mon, 2008-02-04 07:35.
Drew Savage

As a huge Patriots fan, it's very difficult for me to talk about yesterday's game.  Seriously...I think there should be some kind of "sports bereavement leave" for when your team loses the big game.

WALKING with DINOSAURS

Fri, 2008-02-01 06:40.
Drew Savage

If you've got kids and you're looking for stuff to do this weekend, no question: Walking with Dinosaurs is THE show to see this weekend.  It runs through Sunday at GM Place.  It's a very theatrical presentation of the story of the dinosaurs, taking you from the beginning to the end.  Nat's a little disappointed that it didn't end with a big show tune, but hey...you can't have everything.

Enough Already!

Thu, 2008-01-31 09:48.
Nat Hunter

You've heard all the stories, people abusing or killing their animals and then getting off with a slap on the wrist  - well it's happened again.  We've been following the story of the 15-week-old puppy beaten to death with a hammer by its' owner, in the hopes that there would be serious repercussions. Sadly there weren't.  Kenneth Stuart of Vancouver, has plead guilty to causing undue pain and suffering to a dog, but the more serious charge of killing an animal was stayed.

"NEW" NEW KIDS!

Wed, 2008-01-30 07:03.
Drew Savage

I'll be honest with you: I had no idea that in 2008 we'd be talking as much about the New Kids on the Block as we have been this week.  Despite what Danny Wood said on Monday, it looks more and more likely that the New Kids are making a comeback.

More Help Needed

Wed, 2008-01-16 08:01.
Nat Hunter

First off, thanks to all of you who were moved to take action last week after hearing about the Vancouver man who beat his 15-week-old puppy to death with a hammer.  We asked you to sign the petitions that have been launched by the SPCA in an effort to enforce tougher laws for people convicted of harming or killing an animal.  Good news - about 2000 people went to the site and hundreds and hundreds signed.  However, if you haven't yet......please take a minute to do so today, it could make all the difference.

You Have To See This To Believe It!!!!!

Mon, 2008-01-14 07:46.
Nat Hunter

Naturally 7, a group out of New York City, were the opening act for Michael Buble on Saturday night - and judging from their performance they'll be headlining in the very near future.  Not only are they fantastic singers, they make all the sounds of the instruments, and it sounds like a full on band.

Saving the Animals - Part II

Fri, 2008-01-11 07:21.
Nat Hunter

We are really encouraging everyone to take a few moments today or over the course of the weekend and sign a couple of petitions to end animal cruelty.  This is a cause that we, like many of you feel strongly about.  The SPCA in British Columbia has been asking for tougher penalties for offenders for years, but clearly the politicans need to hear from you.

Help Save the Animals!

Thu, 2008-01-10 07:56.
Nat Hunter

If you, like so many of us here at the station, were disgusted by the story of the Vancouver man who admitted to beating his 15-week-old puppy to death with a hammer, there is something you can do about it.

Single and Searching?

Fri, 2008-01-04 09:50.
Nat Hunter

If you are a singleton (as Bridget Jones would say) and are hoping to change that in the New Year, you might want to check out a new event in town.  It's called 'Teacher Speed Dating' and it's been started by a teacher who says that educators have a really hard job finding a mate, because they work largely with kids or members of the same gender.  For example, founder Kip Dheenshaw-Gill says 99 percent of elementary school teachers are women, while 60-70 percent of high school teachers are men.  So if you are a teacher, or a single professional looking to change it up and try something different, the first event is tonight and all the details can be found on their website.

ATTENTION: EARLY RISERS!

Thu, 2008-01-03 14:12.
Drew Savage

If you're like us, you start your mornings early.  In fact, there seems to be more and more people getting an early start on the day than ever before.  When Nat & I were on the road for the "Food Bank Fill-Up" last month, I was amazed at how busy Hwy 1 was at 5:30am.  And the line-up of cars in Surrey waiting to get on Hwy 91 was ridiculous.  I double-checked the clock in my car a couple times, worried that I was actually an hour late.  I wasn't.  Life is just starting earlier on the Lower Mainland.  That's why we're making a change to the show.

They are #1 in our hearts!

Thu, 2008-01-03 10:49.
Nat Hunter

They're cute, they're furry and they are two of the most popular stars of the internet of 2007! Vancouver Aquarium's otter video has been rated the 17th most popular viral video of the year by Nerve magazine.  It has been watched over 9-million times and favourited over 55-thousand times.  If you're one of the few who hasn't seen it, or you are just looking for a cute fix - here it is!

LOST - Season 4 Trailer

Wed, 2007-12-19 10:26.
Drew Savage

Both Nat & I are major league geeks for the TV show LOST.  Nat's catching up on the season 3 dvd's right now - if you watch the show, you know how messed up she's going to be after watching last season's finale.

Christmas Weirdness!

Wed, 2007-12-19 09:40.
Nat Hunter

We were talking about weird Christmas decorations on the show this morning, and I stumbled upon this festive video from youtube.  It's a display based on grandma getting run over by a reindeer - but these aren't old school reindeer, they've got licenses and road rage.

Looking for someone who likes to give belly rubs!!!

Tue, 2007-12-18 12:38.
Nat Hunter

The Catahoula Rescue organization in the lower mainland needs your help!  Last week they rescued two five-month-old puppies from Georgia who were slated to be euthanized because of overcrowding.  The dogs are due to arrive in Vancouver tomorrow, but there is only room at the inn for one of them.  They have a temporary home for one pup, but are still looking for a foster parent (or ideally a permanent home) for the second puppy.  If you are interested, and have some dog experience please check out their photo and story on our "Pets on the Net" page - by clicking animals up for adoption.  And of course, thank you!!!!!

ON STAGE with BON JOVI

Sun, 2007-12-16 18:35.
Drew Savage

After 12 years, Bon Jovi FINALLY returned to Vancouver this weekend for two shows.  I went on Saturday and the guys were off the charts.  The energy from both the band and the fans at GM Place was electric.  Too often, Vancouver concert crowds spend a lot of time sitting on their hands during a show - not Saturday.  There was no fear of someone poking you from behind during "Living on a Prayer" and asking you to sit down - EVERYONE was into it.

FOOD BANK FILL-UP Results

Sun, 2007-12-16 18:32.
Drew Savage

4 days...4 locations...4 different food banks.  Thanks to you, we were able to raise 50,500 pounds of food and over $116,000 in cash.  "Nat & Drew's Food Bank Fill-Up" was a huge success and provided us with moments we'll never forget.  THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

FOOD BANK FILL-UP - DAY 3

Thu, 2007-12-13 11:00.
Drew Savage

Live from Coquitlam!  Here we go with Day 3 of "Nat & Drew's Food Bank Fill-Up."  Aside from one rather delirious moment where I completely lost track of who and where we are, it's been a great morning.  Keep the donations coming.  We only have today and tomorrow left to fill FOUR 5-ton pods with food.

FOOD BANK FILL-UP - DAY 2

Wed, 2007-12-12 11:32.
Drew Savage

Hi kids,

We're off to a great start with the FOOD BANK FILL-UP.  We had our best Day 1 ever and Day 2 is off to a solid start.

Some Tales from the Front Lines today...

Looking for a good cause?

Fri, 2007-11-30 10:04.
Nat Hunter

This is the time of year for glad tidings, joy, and sugar plums - though I'm not really sure what they are, but they sound festive!  But as you are rushing from store to store, checking off all the people on your list, maybe you could add a cause or two?  Nat and Drew's Food Bank Fill-Up kicks off on December 11th, raising money and food for four local foodbanks - but before that there's a big event happening in East Vancouver.  The 12th Annual InnerCity Christmas Dinner - which provides an authentic Christmas dinner and toys for hundreds and hundreds of school kids.

GREY'S STAR KISSES BROTHER!

Fri, 2007-11-30 07:11.
Drew Savage

Ewww....this is kinda gross.  Here's the video we talked about in Friday's Daily Dirt - it's Grey's Anatomy star Chyler Leigh (who plays Meredith's sister, Lexie) in her first movie role.  For some perverted reason, the producers of the film Kickboxing Academy cast Chyler's BROTHER as her LOVE INTEREST!!!  I don't know what's worse: the producers asking them to do this or Chyler and her brother actually going along with it.

THE FAMILY CHALLENGE

Thu, 2007-11-29 07:52.
Drew Savage

Think your kids are spoiled rotten and don't know the value of a good day's work?  There's a new way to teach them a lesson: put them on TV!

This morning we talked to David Fournier and Ivan Scheenberg - the executive producers of a new Slice TV show called The Family Challenge.  They're looking for well-off families who are willing to give up all their materialistic possessions to go take on a working-class job.  The idea is to bring families who are constantly plugged into iPods, computers and video games a chance to reconnect and learn the value of work all over again.

YOU'RE SUCH A QUATCHI!

Wed, 2007-11-28 10:38.
Drew Savage

I don't care what the stuffy, crusty critics say - I dig the Olympic mascots and, more importantly, the kids seem to dig them even more.

I hope it's furry and cute!

There is tight security at the 2010 Olympic office today as officials put the finishing touches on tomorrow's mascot unveiling.  There are only a handful of people who know what the official mascot will be, for fear of it being leaked on the internet.  Why so much hullabaloo over a mascot?  I have no idea.  Will the right mascot make or break our Olympics - probably not....but the wrong one could make us the butt of numerous jokes.  Check out some of the worst mascots of all time here.

YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS!!!!

Nat Hunter

There is talk today of the city of Vancouver working towards banning plastic bags in stores.  This comes on the heals of San Franciso's decision to do just that.  The good news is, if it goes through, it won't cost us anything to become a little greener.  It's not the same as purchasing a hybrid car or installing solar power in your house....it's just a little thing we can all start doing right now, we don't even have to wait for a by-law to take effect.

LIFE WITHOUT TV

Thu, 2007-11-22 07:51.
Drew Savage

Linda Solomon was on with us this morning.  Linda's an on-line journalist with The Vancouver Observer who has written extensively about how she and her family gave up watching television over a year ago.  When they lived on Cortez Island, they watched upwards of 4 hours EVERY DAY.  After moving to the Lower Mainland last spring, they decided to unplug the TV and spend more time together and taking advantage of what the city had to offer instead of relying on the babysitter in a box.

Jesus has made another appearance! This time, with his mother Mary. Marilyn Smith was making pancakes for her daughter and just before she took her first bite, she noticed the holy images in one of the pancakes. She got almost $350 for it on eBay, but we don't see Jesus and Mary in this pancake. Do you? You can email us at mornings@95crave.com.

Where Do You Stand on the Recent Taser Death at YVR?

Fri, 2007-11-16 10:40.
Drew Savage
Our phones lines were jammed and our inbox is loaded with messages about the video released yesterday of Robert Dziekanski being taserd by RCMP officers at YVR. The man arrived in Vancouver from Poland on October 13th to start a new life, but seemed dazed and confused at the airport for hours before the situation eventually led to what we saw on the video. We weren't able to air all the phone calls we received, so we thought we'd put together our first ever "audio blog" so these diverse opinions can be heard.

If you want to comment on ANYTHING you've heard on the show, email us: mornings@95crave.com.

We're all living in a YouTube world!  It seems as though EVERYTHING gets caught on video these days...and that includes the streaker who ran across the field at BC Place Wednesday day during the Whitecaps/Galaxy game.  Dude sure was able to run around a long time out there.  Maybe security knew it was going to be the highlight of the game?

It's so easy to let the little stuff get you down.  From people cutting you off in traffic, to a boss that's too demanding, or a bad hair day....sometimes we get bogged down by our own minutiae.  If you've been having a bad day, week, month whatever....what you might need is some perspective.  The person to give that to you is Dr. Randy Pausch.  He is dying from pancreatic cancer, so if anyone has reason to complain it would be him.  But instead, he lives life to the fullest, and you can to.   Seriously.....watch the video!!!!

Pretty dramatic headline, isn't it?

We know how important it is to eat a healthy diet...the problem is sometimes, knowing what's healthy.  As soon as you find out something is good for you, someone comes out with a study to say that it isn't.  Case in point: the website www.body-philosophy.net has polled a number of doctors and nutritionists and has come up with a list of ten "healthy" foods that may kill you.  Think your doing your body good when you eat soy, yogurt or dried fruit?  Think again.

Have you heard about the new fall show on CBS called Kid Nation? Essentially 40 kids from the ages of 8 to 15 were selected to take over a ghost town in New Mexico, and establish a government and a civilized kiddie society.  The concept is crazy: what parent in their right mind would hand over their young child to a bunch of strangers for six weeks?  Remember I said a parent in their right mind not Britney Spears!

On the show this morning we talked about Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick's decision to enter a guilty plea on numerous animal cruelty charges with regards to a dog fighting ring.  To put into words how horrified most of us feel about what Vick has done is no easy task, but the President of the Humane Society in Canada Michael O'Sullivan did a very good job in this post:
