You've heard all the stories, people abusing or killing their animals and then getting off with a slap on the wrist  - well it's happened again.  We've been following the story of the 15-week-old puppy beaten to death with a hammer by its' owner, in the hopes that there would be serious repercussions. Sadly there weren't.  Kenneth Stuart of Vancouver, has plead guilty to causing undue pain and suffering to a dog, but the more serious charge of killing an animal was stayed.

So what will happen to this man?  He will have to pay a one thousand dollar fine, and will be banned from owning animals for two years.  Hardly a fitting punishment for such a heinous act,  but under the current laws that's as tough as it gets.  The SPCA and The Humane Society are leading the charge to change the laws and are asking Ottawa to impose much stiffer penalties for people who abuse animals.
