If you, like so many of us here at the station, were disgusted by the story of the Vancouver man who admitted to beating his 15-week-old puppy to death with a hammer, there is something you can do about it.

We spoke with Marcy Moriarty, the General Manager of Cruelty Investigations for the BC SPCA, and she says the laws for people who abuse animals are not tough enough - not by a long shot.  In fact, very few people ever serve jail time and often get slapped with a fine of a few hundred dollars.  There was even one case where two guys tied a stray dog to a tree and beat it to death with a baseball bat, but because the dog died quickly it was not considered animal cruelty.

If this upsets you, makes you sick to your stomach, please click on the link below and sign the petition telling the government you want to see tougher laws for people who abuse animals.  It will only take a moment of your time, and could make a very important difference.
