Surrey Foodbank
The need for food is greater than ever this year. That is why from Tuesday, December 11th to Friday, December 14th, Nat & Drew's Foodbank Fill Up will take place. Nat & Drew along with the rest of the 95 Crave announcers will be taking their shows on the road, broadcasting from various Safeway locations.
In support of the Surrey Food Bank, 95 Crave will be collecting donations at 7450 - 120th Street (Scott Road North of 72nd Avenue).
Here are some stats to keep in mind:
- 12% of people who use food banks are employed, but do not make enough money to meet their basic needs
- The minimum wage in BC of $8 has not changed since 2001; however, the cost of living has risen
- One third of food bank users are single parent families
- BC has the highest rate of child poverty in the country - nearly 1 in 4 children in BC live in poverty - 23.5% (the national average is 17.7%)
- The Surrey Food Bank offers food assistance to just under 14,000 people every month - 41% are children and babies
- It costs $100,000 a year to provide a full week of formula for over 100 babies every week
- The Surrey Food Bank delivers hampers every two weeks to just under 100 people with mobility issues (unable to pick up their own food due to illness, disability, etc)
