While it might be difficult to guess the year of a band's debut from the name of the event in question, a rock combo whose first gig was something called a "Freak Out" would have to have come along in the late '60s. It was, in fact, the fall of 1969 when drummer David Evans took part in the first gig ever by Blue Ash, an Ohio band that went on to record for the Mercury label. While Youngstown, Ohio was not specifically mentioned in Frank Zappa's homage to freaking out, "It Can't Happen Here," Zappa would have been mildly thrilled by an official "Freak Out" happening in that town. Blue Ash's participation came about as a result of bassist Frank Secich asking singer Jim Kendzor a typical-'60s question: "Like...uh...hey man, do you want to start a bandNULL"
