Toystore was the alias of the enigmatic twee-popster Jenky, a notoriously reclusive figure about whom almost nothing is known. According to legend, his demo tapes arrived unsolicited on the doorstep of the tiny Michigan-based indie label Janeane Records sometime in early 1998, accompanied only by a letter reading "At the very most, please release my music; at the very least, please do not make fun of it." Subsequent attempts to trace the package's origins proved fruitless, but undaunted the label issued Toystore's debut album Jazz For Twee later that same year in a very limited edition of only 100 copies; a small but fervent cult following now eagerly awaits Jenky's next move. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
