The Hal Lovejoy Circus formed as a way for drummer/singer Scott Donnell and singer/guitarist Michael Marquis to get their shy friend, bassist/singer Al Nathan, into the spotlight. The trio recorded a demo tape which they sent to Fish of Death Records, who signed them and released their debut, American Made, in 1998; the album was re-released the following year by Beyond Records. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
