Nihil is a three-piece band -- Scott Crowley on vocals and programming, Vanessa Urso on keyboards and Tony Richey on bass -- whose sound could be compared to many of the bands they've toured with: the Electric Hellfire Club, Godflesh, Cubanate, and other electro-rock outfits. Crowley founded the band himself, in his hometown of Phoenix, AZ, back in 1994. After assembling the band, the group hooked up with producer Neil Kernon (who has worked with David Bowie, Queensryche, and labelmates the Clay People), who promptly signed him to his Auslander label (part of Slipdisc/Mercury). Many accolades preceded their major label debut, such as Best Industrial Band in 1997 and 1998 at the New Times Music Awards, among others. Their full-length debut, Drown, was finally released in early 1998. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
